IGE Alcohol and Drug Policy

Alcohol may be consumed, but not abused, by students who are of legal age in their host countries. Students who choose to consume alcohol do so with the knowledge that they remain responsible for their actions at all times. IGE prohibits the illegal distribution of alcohol to students who are not of legal drinking age in their host countries. IGE prohibits the unlawful use of alcohol in any of its facilities and at any of its activities. IGE will impose serious sanctions on any student who commits an alcohol infraction, including drunkenness and/or any abuse of alcohol.

Students attend IGE programs from multiple colleges and universities – each of which have their own alcohol and drug policies. While on any IGE program you remain a student of your home university and as such may be subject to disciplinary action from your home institution for any alcohol or drug related infractions.

Specific sanctions from the host country for alcohol related legal violations may also occur; details are available at the Center office. IGE does not encourage the use of alcohol or condone any drinking patterns or behaviors that are detrimental to the health and welfare of the individual, the IGE community, or the community at large.

Possession, use or distribution of any drugs that are considered by host country law to be illicit or illegal drugs or controlled substances is strictly prohibited. Students are cautioned that the possession of drugs is often dealt with harshly by local, host country law enforcement.

NOTE: Any alcohol or other drug infraction will be considered a grave violation of policy and will result in serious sanctions, up to and including dismissal from the program. The use of illegal drugs and the abuse of alcohol are seriously detrimental to one’s health and well being. IGE urges students involved with either of these situations to obtain the necessary assistance from medical professionals and counselors.

IGE Refund Policy

IGE makes significant financial commitments on students’ behalf well before the start of each IGE program. Full refunds are not possible after the full payment date, which is due upon receipt of your bill. Any refund issued will always be less any non-refundable IGE Deposit Fees.

Students who withdrawal after the full payment date are responsible for payment of unrecoverable costs incurred by IGE. A refund is issued only on recoverable costs and only after written notice of withdrawal from the IGE Program is received in the Denver office.

On or after the program start date there will be no refunds. Appeals for partial refunds will be considered only in cases of serious illness or emergency requiring a student’s return to the United States and in consultation with the IGE administration and faculty. The amount of any possible refund will be determined individually on recoverable costs, and will be made at the sole discretion of IGE at the time of withdrawal.

Please note that these costs vary considerably and cannot be determined in advance.

Any student, who is dismissed after beginning any IGE program for any reason, forfeits the possibility of any refund for used or unused expenses as well as the comprehensive fee.
